5. Find a new hobby and begin taking classes.
Picking up a hobby can be exciting and daunting. You’re challenging yourself to be a beginner again and you will fail along the way, but through it you learn more about yourself and become that much more interesting. Find something that piques your interest and book classes, even if only for a month to try it out.
6. Read a book a month.
It’s hard to find time to read sometimes. Between work, errands, self care, and scrolling on social media, books usually get crowded out. Make it a goal this year to read one book a month, whether it be self help, fiction, poetry, or whatever strikes your fancy.
7. Journal at least 5 sentences a day.
Perhaps one of the most popular of new year’s resolution ideas: journaling. It can be incredibly helpful but it can be hard to know how to begin. We suggest starting with 5 sentences a day and focusing on how you feel or events that happened that day.
8. Work out 3x a week.
The mental and health benefits of exercise are well documented, even if you don’t have a goal to lose weight. Going for walks, yoga, Pilates, and weight lifting are all great options, just find something you enjoy and can stick with.
9. Get rid of any clothes you haven’t worn in the last year.
Clean out your closet! Donate anything still in good condition and throw away anything that’s not. It’s time to let go of things you no longer need or want to make room for things you do.
10. Meet someone new every week.
It’s easy to get stuck in a rut where every day feels monotonous. One way to break that is to meet someone new every week. Whether it’s someone at the gym, a coffee shop, or in a store, challenge yourself to strike up a conversation and meet someone! You never know where it’ll lead.
11. Limit drinking to 1x per week.
Drinking alcohol can be fun in moderation, but if you feel you HAVE to do it to have fun or feel comfortable in social settings, it may be time for a break. If you lean on alcohol more than you’d like, try limiting yourself to only once per week.

28. Limit TV time each night.
We’re all guilty of rotting on the couch watching episodes of some show back to back to back. As nice as that is every now and then, try limiting your TV time each night and dedicate that time to reading, journaling, a side hustle, or hobby.
29. Donate a certain amount of money each month.
Charitable giving is a wonderful way to give back to your community or a cause you care about. It could be as little as $10 a month, but setting a goal to give can make a bigger difference than you anticipate in the long run.

Practicing daily affirmations can literally reshape how you see reality, so it’s one of our most highly recommended new year’s resolution ideas. Find some affirmations that resonate with you and make it a point to set aside time to meditate on them.
